Rick and Clarlyn Ledy’s 112-year-old barn is full of history, antiques, and primitives. It’s located in Moran, 14 miles north and a bit west of historic St. Ignace, the second oldest continuous city in the US. Plan a day visiting the museums and historic Mackinac Island, a 15-minute boat ride across the Straits of Mackinac in full view of the Mackinac Bridge. The Gourd Barn is a peaceful getaway. Clarlyn’s newly opened Garden Art Shop showcases her artistic touches with repurposed metal art, garden benches, wine bottle wind chimes, and lead crystal suncatchers. Handmade vintage camper pillows and quilts are available for purchase, as well. One-of-a-kind decorated gourds include vases, bowls, birdhouses, and succulent hangers. Rhubarb leaves picked from the patch at the end of the barn are the base for the sand cast birdbaths. Art classes can be scheduled ahead of time in gourd art, birdbath painting, sun catchers, and wind chime creation. Pets are welcome and will be greeted by sweet Ruby, a Golden Retriever rescue. Enjoy the Ledy’s barn tour but please observe social distancing and use the hand sanitizer located at the doors before entering the shop.
